We’re blushing: CBC and our advisors “get it”

We could tell you about Toboggan Flats and co-living, or we could let the CBC do it for us. It’s 10 minutes well worth your time. Listen for two young, hopeful residents of Toboggan Flats who are helping us shape the model. They share what they like about co-living and Toboggan Flats. Huge thanks to the CBC’s Mary Wiens. This is her final story for the CBC, and it’s a great one.

Oki Adeoba and Kaylee Ramos are two members of our Residents Advisory Council. We hosted our first meeting last week. Made up of young people in music production, architecture, nursing professions, real estate, an international student and more, the group is focused on building a great co-living experience for all new residents of Toboggan Flats.

The first Residents Advisory Council was a fascinating exploration of co-living. Here are a few highlights:

  • Design of the private rooms: Can they look like boutique hotel rooms? We think rResidents wantwould be more likely to be interested in well-designed private rooms with great shared amenities.
  • Amenity wait times: How do we ensure that residents aren’t waiting to use basic amenities?
  • Size of resident blocks: If the building is your neighbourhood, and your floor is your street, how many people would share your neighbourhood block? We see 10-15 as small enough to gather for dinner together and big enough to add diversity and support.
  • Selecting your block: We could use apps to connect like-minded and like-living people and increase the success of our community.
  • Taking the next step: Toboggan Flats is a logical next step for young adults who want to move on from residence and dormitories.
  • No bathroom duty: Having a hired cleaner to clean to shared spaces, especially the bathrooms, remains a huge selling point!

Wanted: Residents Advisory Council members

Know any young people who are interested in co-living and can help us build our community model? We’re recruiting more members for our Residents Advisory Council. Bankers, lawyers, healthcare professionals. Artists, creators, skilled tradespeople and community builders. If you think of anyone, please refer them  to Theo@tobogganflats.com. Our next meeting is in a few weeks.
